CHAWK LINES -- Seahawks at Rams

The Seahawks apparently are signing LB Nick Moody, a 2013 sixth-round pick by the 49ers. The move likely means Mike Morgan (hamstring) will miss more than just the opener. It’s possible the Hawks will place Morgan on IR (season or half-season). Moody is known as a good special-teams player, which is where Morgan makes his money.

Pete Carroll talked about the state of the team entering the opener, including the Kam Chancellor situation.

Defensive coordinator Kris Richard expressed optimism that Chancellor will return soon.

Rob Rang lists three reasons Chancellor’s holdout could end by next week.

Marshawn Lynch (who else?) caused a stir by wearing Chancellor’s jersey at practice Thursday, and Kam appreciated it.

Believe it or not, Kam Chancellor says he’s holding out over a matter of $900,000. And he apparently wants to do this again in two years.

Chancellor will not play Sunday, Pete Carroll said, adding he is “disappointed in this, very much so.”

Anonymous teammates told ESPN they don’t expect Chancellor to play this year and expect the Hawks to win without him.

The Seahawks waived Robert Turbin on an injury settlement. If he is unclaimed, he will become free to sign with any team. His high ankle sprain was expected to keep him out for five weeks. The Hawks could bring him back late in the season if he does not end up with another team.

Fred Jackson was beloved in Buffalo, but he’s excited to come to Seattle, according to the Buffalo News.

Jackson said he called Marshawn Lynch and had him “put a bug” in the ears of Pete Carroll and John Schneider about signing Jackson.

Carroll said the Seahawks are not interested in trading Kam Chancellor.

Dave Boling wrote that Chancellor’s nonsensical holdout has defied his heroic persona.

If Chancellor misses the opener, it could cost him $517,647.

Remember, if Chancellor stays out all year, he still will be under contract for three more. And it will have cost him $6.55 million. The Hawks hold all of the cards for as long as they want to.

Russell Wilson worked on his speed this offseason and now runs a 4.47 40.

The Seahawks and Rams are on USA Today’s list of the five NFL teams with the biggest OL concerns. Against those stout defensive fronts, get ready for an ugly 9-6 slugfest.

Fred Jackson signed his contract on Sunday.

Seattle’s practice squad includes two SeaDawgs and two former draft picks.

The Seahawks probably were at least mildly disappointed to lose Ronald Martin and Obum Gwacham to other teams — although they always might have a chance to get them back.

Sherman Smith recently explained why Christine Michael frustrated Seattle coaches so much.

Will Blackmon is adhering to Pete Carroll’s “Always Compete” mantra …

No change between the Seahawks and Kam Chancellor.

Many teams, including the New York Giants, have called, but the Hawks are not entertaining trade offers.

Chancellor might seek a trade, but the Hawks have not given him permission to talk to other teams about a contract.

Warren Moon apparently does not agree with Chancellor’s holdout.

Some bleeding-heart fan started a petition to get Chancellor back.

Kam Chancellor was among those interviewed by precocious 10-year-old Isabella for NBC’s “Sunday Night Football.” But will he even be there when the Hawks play Green Bay on “SNF” in Week 2?

Jason Cole of Bleacher Report thinks the Hawks will extend Chancellor by a year so they can pay him more this year. That goes against most opinions on the Hawks’ thinking.

Bruce Irvin is conflicted about Chancellor’s holdout: “We need Kam, but Kam deserves his money.”

Irvin also has advice for fellow Seahawks draft gamble Frank Clark.

Chargers QB Philip Rivers said he didn’t think anything about his minor scuffle with Clark last weekend.

Tom Cable said this group of linemen — Russell Okung, Justin Britt, Drew Nowak, J.R. Sweezy, Garry Gilliam — could turn out to be the best he has had. Not sure that would say too much.

Nowak grew up a Packers fan in Wisconsin, so Week 2 in Green Bay will be “surreal.”

The call to Fred Jackson proves the Seahawks clearly still don’t trust Christine Michael as the No. 2 back.

Kevin Norwood is ready to play in Carolina, where he is being coached by one-time Seahawks WR Ricky Proehl.

Who knew Sept. 1 was Marshawn Lynch Day?

First, “Big Daddy” celebrates by getting “intimate” with Skittles and saying “I do” on TV.

Then we’ve got the NFL announcing that Super Bowl Media Day — otherwise known as “Marshawn Mocks the NFL Day” — will become a prime-time affair. You know the ever talkative Lynch can’t wait.

And, in real football news, Lynch’s buddy from Buffalo, Fred Jackson, reportedly is headed to Seattle to take a physical.

Marshawn Lynch won’t have to pay his $75,000 fine for not talking after the NFC title game — provided he talks to the media going forward. So, be prepared for more variations of “I’m just here so I won’t get fined.”

Recovery Watergate is still overflowing with overreaction, with some people taking Russell Wilson’s comments far too seriously. Have a Recovery Glass of Wine and chill out, folks.

K.J. Wright said he felt like he gave up too many touchdowns last year — he is right — and he explained how he is going to fix it.

Tharold Simon thinks he’s going to compete for a starting gig. He also admits he was not prepared in the Super Bowl. Tell us something we don’t know, Simon. And, yeah, good luck with that starting job.

A former GM joins the chorus of those who think the Hawks might end up having to trade Kam Chancellor.

If it comes to that, where might the Seahawks trade their Pro Bowl safety — and for what?

Doug Baldwin calls the Chancellor holdout “the price of success” and says “it’s a difficult time, both for the organization and for him.”

Bob Condotta answered the question: Has a player ever held out for a full season? The next natural question is: What happened after that? John Riggins returned to the Redskins after new coach Joe Gibbs recruited him back. Sean Gilbert left Washington for Carolina. Todd Bell — like Chancellor, a thumping star safety — returned to Chicago under a new deal the next year. But he regretted missing out on the Bears’ Super Bowl title in 1985.

Michael Bennett made some waves this morning talking about mediocre QBs getting mega money, but he also said of his own contract dissatisfaction, “I can’t let my unhappiness trump my professionalism.”

Marshawn Lynch was fined $75,000 for not talking after the NFC title game, bringing his total fines from last year to $195,000 (as far as we know).

It appears Evan Mathis might be willing to play for an incentive-laden deal that paid him $3.5 million or so. The Hawks could do that.

Mathis is going to pick a team by the end of the week, agent Drew Rosenhaus said.

Rumblings that the Seahawks might be willing to make a concession for Kam Chancellor. #CanOfWorms

The Hawks also had free-agent center Samson Satele in for a visit.

While the Hawks consider adding a veteran, they will start the same five this week — Okung, Britt, Nowak, Sweezy, Gilliam.
