CHAWK LINES -- Bye weekWhat do the Seahawks think of their situation entering their midseason bye?

The offensive line played pretty well in Dallas, but Pete Carroll is correct when he says, “It’s just one game. It doesn’t mean you’ve made it over the hump.”

Field Gulls broke down the way the Seahawks used the middle of the field.

The Seahawks have been using Jimmy Graham more and more.

As expected, the Hawks made no trades. They really had no room to do so unless they wanted to swap big-salaried players or make a minor deal that probably would not help.

The Seahawks were emotionally rattled by Ricardo Lockette’s neck injury and incorrectly called the hit by Jeff Heath a “dirty play.” (Lockette clearly ran right into him.)

Lockette had neck surgery is expected to spend the week in Dallas.

Jeremy Lane is expected to start practicing next week but not return until perhaps Week 11. Will he reclaim his nickel back spot?

CHAWK LINES -- Seahawks at Cowboys

Apparently, Thomas Rawls is not going to be able to play this week. Why else would the Seahawks sign Bryce Brown? The Hawks lost Rod Smith off waivers to Dallas two weeks ago, so they had to look elsewhere for reinforcements this time. B.J. Daniels was released for the second time this season.

Pete Carroll says K.J. Wright is having his best season (he’s great at defending screen plays, and he’s apparently not the one giving up big yards to tight ends).

Paul Richardson’s pending return highlights the general lack of contributions from the 2013 and 2014 draft classes.

CHAWK LINES -- Seahawks at 49ers

Michael Bennett had a career-best 3.5 sacks — though he made a good point he should have gotten partial credit for a fourth.

Will Tukuafu played a lot, as fullback and defensive lineman, and six defenders played every snap.

The Seahawks still have plenty to prove, Dave Boling correctly says.

The great rivalry between the Hawks and Niners is dead, as the teams head in different directions, Danny Kelly writes.

CHAWK LINES -- Panthers at Seahawks

Pete Carroll debunked today’s rumor that he might return to USC: “That’s not happening. We’re in good shape here.”

Carroll talked about the defensive breakdown vs. Carolina and losing again despite winning the turnover battle.

Carroll also said, “We should be 6-0 and we should be rolling right now.’’

The coaches are the culprits in these collapses.

The Seahawks have gotten good pressure on quarterbacks the past two games.

Meanwhile, they are the worst red-zone offense in the NFL.

The Seahawks will reinstate Derrick Coleman, although it might not be this week.

49ers coach Jim Tomsula is satisfied with the condition of Levi’s Stadium turf.

CHAWK LINES -- Panthers at SeahawksSounds like a Seahawks fan tried to give the Panthers a taste of what it feels like to be playing in the early morning. Not cool.

Even former Seahawk Kevin Norwood — now a Panther — thinks this game is pivotal.

Dave Boling thinks the Seahawks will use Carolina as a springboard again.

Tight ends are still a problem for Seattle — and Greg Olsen is coming to town.

Rob Rang has three key matchups, including Olsen vs. Kam Chancellor and Kevin Pierre-Louis.

CHAWK LINES -- Panthers at Seahawks
The Seahawks waived B.J. Daniels and Rod Smith and were expected to add cornerback Crezdon Butler. Their other addition could end up being a defensive lineman, with Jordan Hill and Demarcus Dobbs down. Also, recall that Paul Richardson can start practicing next week.

What has happened to Russell Wilson’s game-winning magic?

Brock Huard explains how the Hawks need to use Jimmy Graham: Forget the short crap and send him deeper into the middle of the field. We agree.

Some people apparently want to get rid of Graham. No, they just need to use him better.

The Seahawks’ turnover stats are upside-down, but Pete Carroll expects them to turn right side up soon.

These aren’t the Seahawks we’ll see in November and December.

Russell Wilson reportedly is working on his speed, losing weight, so he can remain as mobile as possible.

Dave Boling says Wilson’s toughness is his best quality.

Fred Jackson, expected to play, said 10 teams were interested in him when Buffalo cut him, but Seattle was the only one that would sign him before Week 1, thus guaranteeing his one-year salary.

An insider’s look at the Bengals.

The Bengals present lots of challenges for the Seahawks.

The Seahawks are not making any changes on the O-line at this point, hoping the unit will get better as constituted.

John Boyle of Seahawks.com reviews the first quarter of the season.

The Seahawks are still the No. 3 betting favorite, at 6-1, to win the Super Bowl. Like us, Vegas knows better than to panic.

Here’s a good look at how the Seahawks always turn it on in the second half of the season.

The Seahawks have flipped the script on penalties this season, Bob Condotta writes.

That’s ironic, considering the rest of the NFL is on pace to set a record for penalties.

Russell Wilson said he feels just fine despite being sacked 18 times — a pace for a team record.
