The folks running Earl Thomas’ site give perspective to his impassioned press conference the other day in which he said he regained his “championship spirit” after the loss in San Diego.

Contrary to previous reports that had the Chargers’ receivers saying they “exposed” Richard Sherman, several Chargers expressed admiration for his ability.

Bruce Irvin apologized “to the 12th Man” for his “boneheaded play” that helped lose the game and also cost him some cash.

On to the Broncos …

The Seahawks aren’t the only team using a WR/RB hybrid (Percy Harvin). Danny Kelly of Field Gulls looks at the NFL trend.

Clay Travis of FOX Sports talks about the politicization of sports (the NFL) in the wake of Roger Goodell’s very politicky apologies-and-promises speech. Along the way, Travis points out that Goodell is just the scapegoat for issues that social media (and one video) have suddenly turned into bigger deals than they were 5-10 years ago.

While the media frets and frowns about a few bad NFL apples and makes it seem as if the entire league is populated by felons, Russell Wilson goes about his daily good deeds.

All you need to know about the jet sweep

Jet sweep
Field Gulls breakdown of the jet sweep the Seahawks ran against Green Bay.

In 2012, the Seahawks added a dynamic player with unique traits and eventually found a way to take advantage of them: Rookie quarterback Russell Wilson lit up the league with the zone read option in the last few weeks of the season.

This year, the Hawks have another new player with stellar abilities, and they already know how to use him.

OK, so Percy Harvin isn’t really new — he was acquired last year — but a hip injury limited him to just a few plays all season so this is really the first time he has been healthy and used to full effect. He showed off his skills impressively in the season-opening 36-16 win over Green Bay.

Now everyone is talking about the Seahawks’ use of the jet sweep — i.e., “The Percy Harvin play.”

Hip, hip, hooray for Harvin, Chancellor, Irvin

Hawks vs packers HarvinPercy Harvin, Kam Chancellor and Bruce Irvin — three of the Seahawks’ most explosive players — have been joined at the hip over the past year, linked in the misery that the ultra-important joint connecting their legs and torso has caused them.

Each had surgery to fix his injury — you might say it was the “hip” procedure to undergo over the past 12 months — and now they are, yep, hip to play again.

All three feel better than ever, and it showed in the opener against Green Bay.

Market for Maxwell is set, but will Hawks want to pay $5 million a year?

Hawks vs Packers MaxwellWhen Byron Maxwell finally made the Packers pay by picking off a pass from Aaron Rodgers in the opener Thursday, the immediate thought was: If teams keep throwing at him like that, he will end up in the Pro Bowl alongside Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor.

Teammate Michael Bennett added another thought, quipping to reporters, “All they’re doing is driving Maxwell’s price up.”

And now we have an idea of the price after Pittsburgh gave cornerback Cortez Allen a five-year deal worth $26 million this weekend.

Offense is poised to explode this season

Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson plan to be clapping about their offense a lot this season (Getty Images)The Seahawks went 13-3 and won the Super Bowl last season despite an offense that was incomplete and out of sync for most of the year.

Imagine what they might end up doing with this spectacular-looking crew.

Nothing about the 2014 offense looks incomplete or out of sync — not after Russell Wilson and company rattled off 11 scoring drives in 13 possessions in the preseason. They had scoring drives of 74, 78, 62, 67, 61, 89 and 83 yards in blowout wins over San Diego and Chicago and finished with an easy four-play, 80-yard touchdown drive in Wilson’s only series against Oakland.

Granted, it was just the preseason, but the Hawks look ready to step on the gas this season and put 2013’s sputtering performance in the rear-view mirror.
