CHAWK LINES -- Packers at Seahawks

Kam Chancellor is the man of the hour and the talk of the town and the NFL as the Seahawks get ready to beat the Packers to head back to the Super Bowl. So let’s start with a bunch of stuff on him:

Pete Carroll talked about Lawyer Milloy’s influence on Chancellor in 2010.

Milloy then talked about Chancellor (and more) on 1090 The Fan.

Bobby Wagner told Chancellor “a pick-six would be great” just before the safety did it, per this NFL.com video feature.

And, for good measure, Gregg Bell wrote a nice comprehensive piece about just how important Chancellor is to the Seahawks.

CHAWK LINES -- Bye week

Dan Quinn reportedly had interviews with five teams lined up.

Darrell Bevell and Quinn both reportedly interviewed with the Bills this weekend. Bevell previously talked with the Raiders, too.

Quinn seems to know who he wants to work with if he gets a top job.

Three Seahawks were named to the No. 1 All-Pro team, and two are on the second team.

Bobby Wagner was named NFC defensive player of the month.

Hugh Millen explains why the Seattle offense had trouble in the first half against the Rams but fared better in the second.

Pete Carroll was miked up for Sound FX, which let us hear a conversation he had with owner Paul Allen.

The offense set records this season despite changing drastically after the Percy Harvin trade, Bob Condotta writes.

Harvin will make a little extra money if the Seahawks win the Super Bowl again.

Former Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren says he has “gotten a couple of inquiries” from teams in search of new coaches.

CHAWK LINES -- Merry Christmas!

Bobby Wagner’s surprise Christmas present: a Pro Bowl nod.

Russell Wilson was NFC Offensive Player of the Week.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher on Wilson: “The best way to describe it is that he’s an extra player on offense. They’re playing with 12, and that’s very hard to defend.’’ So, Wilson is a 12th man, too.

Marshawn Lynch was fined $11,050 for grabbing his crotch during his backward dive into the end zone on his 79-yard run vs. Arizona.

Curious about what Lynch and Ricardo Lockette were saying into the microphone boom during the game in Arizona?

The Seahawks needed Jordan Hill to replace Clinton McDonald as the inside rusher, and he finally has, with five sacks in the past five games.

Paying a premium: How Wright’s deal affects Wagner and the rest

Seahawks top salary cap numbersK.J. Wright’s $27 million contract extension is the latest proof that John Schneider and the Seahawks are willing to pay a premium to keep their favorite players.

The Seahawks paid Wright more than they really needed to — he admitted he had a lower figure in mind. We recently projected they would offer him $4 million a year, which was their original goal, per ESPN’s John Clayton, who said Wright wanted $5.5 million.

Instead, they made him the highest-paid 4-3 outside linebacker in the NFL, according to OverTheCap.com. The only outside linebackers with better deals are the guys who rush the passer.

The Hawks obviously value Wright’s versatility — he can play inside or out. But they seemingly overpaid him, just as they did Red Bryant when they gave the run-stopping end $7 million a year.

CHAWK LINES -- 49ers at Seahawks

A detailed look at the recent play of the Seattle defense, particularly the Legion of Boom, by Doug Farrar.

Another breakdown of Seattle’s simple but successful defensive schemes.

A look at Bobby Wagner’s contribution to Seattle’s defensive dominance of the last few weeks.

Seahawks.com focuses on defensive tackles Kevin Williams and Jordan Hill.

Tharold Simon is drawing lots of praise despite a ton of penalties.

Not sure why anyone puts much stock in Pro Football Focus grades — they are just as subjective as your opinion or mine. The Seattle Times uses them to point out how Russell Wilson can be viewed as great and terrible in the same game.

Many think this will be the last game between Jim Harbaugh’s 49ers and Pete Carroll’s Seahawks, with Harbaugh expected to be coaching elsewhere in 2015. Jerry Brewer gives his take.

No one is picking the 49ers.

Mystery solved: Scot McCloughan apparently was forced to leave both the 49ers and the Seahawks because of a drinking problem.

How much will Bobby Wagner cost?

— Michael Bennett, on Bobby Wagner

Bobby Wagner has been a major reason the Seattle defense has put the clamps on Arizona, San Francisco and — most impressively — Philadelphia over the last three weeks — and teammates are singing his praises.

“He’s the heart of the defense,” cornerback Richard Sherman said. “He cleans up a lot of mistakes made by guys, and other guys clean up mistakes like Earl (Thomas) and Kam (Chancellor). We’ve got a lot guys who are erasers out there, and he has such an instinctual game. He believes what he sees, he plays what he sees. On top of the immense talent and speed that he has, that makes for a fantastic football player that I hope everybody recognizes.”

Wagner’s agent obviously hopes general manager John Schneider recognizes it and will be ready to pay Wagner in the next two years.

More about that awesome defense

CHAWK LINES -- DefenseThe Seattle defense is the toast of the NFL again — now that Bobby Wagner, Kam Chancellor and Byron Maxwell are healthy and the unit is playing perhaps the best it ever has.

Pete Carroll said it has been “significant” to get back Wagner, who missed five games with a toe injury, and Chancellor, who sat out two games with a groin issue and got to rest his bad ankles.

I think the camaraderie of all those guys being back in there and feeling right has been resounding,” Carroll said Monday. “You can really feel it.”

Hawks are for real now — and won’t lose again

Bobby Wagner signals Seattle ball after a takeaway against the Eagles (Seahawks.com)

It’s official: The Seahawks are back. And it will be a surprise if they lose again this season.

They are peaking at the perfect time and look fully capable of beating any team that is forced to oppose them (because no one would willingly play them at this point).

A pair of convincing 19-3 wins over their contending division foes were impressive, but there were still doubts about whether the Hawks truly were back to Super Bowl form. After all, the Cardinals and 49ers both were struggling on offense, so was it really an accomplishment for the Seattle defense to hold them to six total points and 368 yards the past two weeks?

It was fair to wonder how a defense that had been gashed by Kansas City’s running game three weeks ago would handle Philadelphia’s high-powered offense.

Were the returns of Bobby Wagner, Kam Chancellor and Byron Maxwell — along with one “come to Jesus” meeting — enough to bring the defense back to its 2013 form?

After a stunningly dominant 24-14 win in Philadelphia, the answer is a resounding “Yes!”

CHAWK LINES -- Seahawks at Eagles

The Seahawks are as healthy as they have been since September — so healthy that they haven’t even felt the need to add a 53rd player because they know that player will be inactive Sunday in Philadelphia.

It has been a big birthday week for Russell Wilson.

Danny Kelly of Field Gulls gives his take on the Hawks’ red-zone failures against the 49ers.

Seattle’s defensive dominance coincides with the return to relative health of two guys: Bobby Wagner and Kam Chancellor.

Dan Quinn and Wagner told Peter King they are not concerned about the quick pace of the Eagles’ offense.

New Seahawk Demarcus Dobbs, who played pretty well in his 11 plays vs. the 49ers, tells his “Blind Side” story.
