CHAWK LINES -- Week in review

The Seahawks are already snooping around pre-released free agents. Ricky Jean Francois got everyone excited, but then he signed with Scot McCloughan — the man who drafted him in San Francisco.

There are a bunch of veteran defensive linemen already available, and we agree with Danny Kelly: The Seahawks are likely to explore that market closely.

Earl Thomas had his torn labrum repaired, and Tharold Simon apparently had shoulder surgery this week as well.

CHAWK LINES -- Week in review

The Seahawks reportedly have offered Marshawn Lynch about $21 million over the next two seasons. Does he want to play though?

John Schneider and Pete Carroll both spoke at the Combine, about Lynch, the Super Bowl and the future.

Schneider revealed that Jeremy Lane suffered a torn ACL on the same interception play on which he also broke his wrist in the Super Bowl.

Among many topics, Carroll said they were working on hiring some assistant coaches at the Combine.

Speaking of Lynch, he had a good message for a crowd at an underground concert in Oakland on Thursday.

Russell Wilson also did some talking this week, taking the blame for the goal-line interception in the Super Bowl but reminding everyone that he is moving forward and thinking ahead, as always.

CHAWK LINES -- Week in review

Danny Kelly of Field Gulls offers some nice analysis of John Schneider’s comments to 710 ESPN.

Schneider also talked to KJR, where the only real new topic was Paul Richardson, who is 50-50 to end up on PUP to start next season.

Byron Maxwell was a hot topic, with Schneider bracing everyone for the fact that the Hawks are likely to lose him.

Michael Robinson thinks Marshawn Lynch will play another season, but who really knows?

The Seahawks have the fourth-toughest schedule in 2015. What else is new? They were No. 6 in 2014.

Clare Farnsworth looks at the unending work of the Seahawks’ equipment crew.

We set up a draft page, with all of the key information on the Seahawks, the Combine and draft prospects — along with mock drafts and blogs.

CHAWK LINES -- Super Bowl XLIX

The Legion of Boom is definitely not healthy for this Super Bowl: Kam Chancellor, who has dealt with injuries to his ankles, hip and groin this season, banged his knee at the end of practice and left with it wrapped. He’s listed as probable, along with Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas.

After his monster game against Carolina three weeks ago, Chancellor didn’t get to see former Seattle enforcer Kenny Easley. But maybe he will this time: Easley will be an honorary captain for the Hawks at the Super Bowl coin toss.

Sherman is expecting his first baby any day. What if his girlfriend goes into labor during the Super Bowl? As you would expect, Pete Carroll said he would support Sherman regardless of his decision to play or not. And, Carroll ended with, “I can’t wait to meet little Petey.”

CHAWK LINES -- Super Bowl XLIX

Since Tuesday was Beast Mode Media Day, we’ll lead with a few on him:

Marshawn Lynch’s father is in prison for burglary, but his “Papa,” Leron Lynch, talked to USA Today about the mercurial running back.

The Seahawks love saying great things about Lynch, and they did so again to Seahawks.com.

If you don’t mind commercialism and Kenny “My nerdy, nonsensical shtick makes me funny, right?” Mayne, check out Lynch in a Progressive ad.

If you care about Lynch’s pointless interview sessions (we don’t), My Northwest ranked them.

The Legion of Boom talks about its old-school motivation tactics.

Coincidence (not irony): Losses to the Chiefs turned around the seasons of both the Patriots and Seahawks.

USA Today offers a pretty good analysis of the Super Bowl matchups, but the writer picks the wrong winner because he underestimates Russell Wilson’s passing ability.

CHAWK LINES -- Super Bowl XLIX

The Seahawks are a young bunch and their immaturity occasionally shows in big ways. Take Marshawn Lynch’s crotch grabbing and Doug Baldwin’s rant.

Baldwin’s bluster was almost exactly what Richard Sherman did a year ago in the NFC title game; and, just like Sherman, Baldwin regretted taking away from his team’s big victory.

Lynch was fined $20,000 for another adolescent touchdown move, and then the crotchety NFL thought Chris Matthews did the same thing while congratulating Lynch and erroneously fined him, too.

Someone in the NFL offices is blind, obviously.

CHAWK LINES -- Packers at Seahawks

First, some game matchups to watch, via Seahawks.com.

Jerry Brewer expresses what probably every Seahawks fan feels: The team needs to find a way to keep Marshawn Lynch beyond this season.

Lynch’s new gold-plated shoes are pretty boss … Boss.

How much did the Seahawks want to keep B.J. Daniels around? They bumped his pay by five times to equal an active-roster salary.

With Bam Bam Kam Chancellor getting so much love all week, Greg Bishop of SI.com put together an in-depth look at the Seahawks’ Super Serious Safety, Earl Thomas.

Sound FX got some great sound from the Carolina-Seattle game off the microphones of linebackers Bobby Wagner and Luke Kuechly.

Demarcus Dobbs’ team is in the NFC title game for the fourth straight year. He should get his first Super Bowl win this time.

Russell Wilson and J.R. Sweezy’s salaries will jump in 2015 due to the “Proven Performance Escalator.” Of course, Wilson is going to get a huge contract extension, making the escalator moot. But Sweezy’s $660,000 salary will more than double, into the $1.5 million range.

Who says all big linemen are blockheads? The Packers’ guys are addicted to the strategy game “Settlers of Catan” (wait until they try “Puerto Rico”).

CHAWK LINES -- Packers at Seahawks

Kam Chancellor is the man of the hour and the talk of the town and the NFL as the Seahawks get ready to beat the Packers to head back to the Super Bowl. So let’s start with a bunch of stuff on him:

Pete Carroll talked about Lawyer Milloy’s influence on Chancellor in 2010.

Milloy then talked about Chancellor (and more) on 1090 The Fan.

Bobby Wagner told Chancellor “a pick-six would be great” just before the safety did it, per this NFL.com video feature.

And, for good measure, Gregg Bell wrote a nice comprehensive piece about just how important Chancellor is to the Seahawks.

CHAWK LINES -- Panthers at Seahawks

Quinn itDan Quinn reportedly is the favorite to be hired as the Jets’ coach. And Tom Cable is in the top three.

Tough guy Russell Wilson is poised to tie Matt Hasselbeck for most postseason wins in Seahawks history.

Field Gulls points out how much better Wilson and the passing game are when they are in rhythm.

Clare Farnsworth of Seahawks.com looks at how the Seahawks and Panthers have changed since the first meeting in Week 8.

Week 8 was a turning point for the Seattle defense, Brady Henderson of MyNorthwest observes.

Michael Bennett compares the Panthers to an attractive cousin, “so you can’t go on a date with her even though you’d like to.”

Colin Cole, who played for Seattle in 2009 and 2010, will step in for injured Carolina defensive tackle Star Lotulelei.

Bob Condotta chronicles Bruce Irvin’s development.

Farnsworth features this game’s great linebacker corps.

The Seattle defense by the numbers, per John Boyle of the Everett Herald.

This trumps the “Lynch found Lynch’s wallet” story:  An agent from Earl Thomas’ agency found Derrick Coleman’s Super Bowl ring in a rental car.

CHAWK LINES -- Bye week

Dan Quinn reportedly had interviews with five teams lined up.

Darrell Bevell and Quinn both reportedly interviewed with the Bills this weekend. Bevell previously talked with the Raiders, too.

Quinn seems to know who he wants to work with if he gets a top job.

Three Seahawks were named to the No. 1 All-Pro team, and two are on the second team.

Bobby Wagner was named NFC defensive player of the month.

Hugh Millen explains why the Seattle offense had trouble in the first half against the Rams but fared better in the second.

Pete Carroll was miked up for Sound FX, which let us hear a conversation he had with owner Paul Allen.

The offense set records this season despite changing drastically after the Percy Harvin trade, Bob Condotta writes.

Harvin will make a little extra money if the Seahawks win the Super Bowl again.

Former Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren says he has “gotten a couple of inquiries” from teams in search of new coaches.
