John Schneider’s Seahawks are known for checking out every opportunity. So it’s not a big surprise that they brought in troubled former first-round cornerback Terrion Arnold for a chat and tryout.

What would be a surprise is if they signed him before they knew whether he might be headed to prison. That would be pretty pointless – and make Schneider and Mike Macdonald look like idiots, frankly.

It sounds like they are being smart about it though – waiting for the legal process to play out. And they seem to understand that Arnold needs them a lot more than they need him. This would be just a potential flyer on a talented kid, if he does not end up incarcerated.

In more ways than one, Arnold would be lucky to land in Seattle.

“We’re going to do our due diligence,” Macdonald said. “There’s a lot of people in Terrion’s corner that we respect. … So, we’re going to work through all that, and I trust our people to make the best decision for us. We also think this is a great place to come work, too, and that people can be the best versions of themselves when given the opportunity. So it kind of works both ways.

“This is a situation of we’re kind of in everything all the time. So, we’re always trying to make our team the best we can possibly make it. Whether or not Terrion ends up here or if it works out or it doesn’t, we’ll keep on rolling the way we know how.”

We’ll know Thursday whether charges will be filed against Arnold. If they are, the Seahawks are not likely to pursue signing him. If they are not, they might offer him the minimum to come grow up with them – on the field and off.

“It’s enough right now that we had him in for a great visit, a great tryout,” Macdonald said. “It’s a situation where there’s other things that are surrounding it. We’re aware of that. But we’re working through the situation right now. But it was a great visit. I really enjoyed meeting him, and I think he enjoyed being here, so we’ll see where it goes.”
