Veteran trade market: A running back?

EDITOR’S NOTE: This is part of our draft preview, broken out into several posts for easier digestion.

In light of the “incredibly shallow” running back class in this draft, Daniel Jeremiah posted, “Teams with some depth at the position should have a trade market for their vets.”

It would not be a stunner if the Hawks got their running back that way. We previously have mentioned Carolina’s Chuba Hubbard.

Or, if Arizona or Washington drafts Notre Dame superstar Jeremiyah Love, the Hawks could look to send a late-round pick for James Conner or Trey Benson (Arizona) or Jacory Croskey-Merritt (Washington). Arizona could throw in a running back as part of the 32-34 flip.

Others have suggested Tennessee could send Tony Pollard to Seattle.

These are all possibilities after the draft as well.

Is Olu on the market?

The Seahawks probably would like to add a fourth-rounder; but, as Brady Henderson posted on Twitter/X, “I don’t get the sense that the Seahawks love this draft, which could temper their desire to significantly add to their pick total.”

However, Henderson also said (on Rob Staton’s podcast) that he would not be surprised if the Hawks traded Olu Oluwatimi for an extra pick. Such a move with the backup center in the final year of his rookie deal likely would be for a sixth-round pick or maybe to help with a trade up somewhere in the draft.

Edge trade seems unlikely

We have talked about the possibility of the Hawks making a deal for a pass rusher – either Jonathan Greenard (Minnesota) or Kayvon Thibodeaux (Giants). Neither has seemed likely, though, and reports confirm the longshot nature of either trade.

Ian Rapoport reported: “The Giants, who had gotten trade calls centered around edge Kayvon Thibodeaux for the last few months, are now considered less likely to trade him following the blockbuster deal sending Dexter Lawrence to the Bengals, sources say.”

Jeremy Fowler reported that the Vikings prefer to keep Greenard. “A trade is ‘really not something (Minnesota’s) trying to do,’ per source.”

The Eagles seem to be the favorites for Greenard, if he is traded.
