Thomas, Simon still a couple of weeks away

Seahawks bandagesA week into camp, it’s a good time to assess the Seahawks’ injury situation. Pete Carroll provided updates after the scrimmage today:

FS Earl Thomas (shoulder), who came off PUP this week, is still a couple of weeks away from practicing with the team. The Hawks removed him from PUP so he could participate in walk-through practices.

Carroll said, “He can get in there and get all of his reps there. There’s 50-something snaps in walk-through that he wasn’t able to get under the conditions of the PUP. So now he’s back and at least he’s getting half the time. It’s still a couple weeks away, but we’re getting closer and we’re trying to get him involved so that he can continue to progress too.”

CB Tharold Simon (shoulder) could come off PUP in a couple of weeks.

Carroll said, “Tharold is in the conversation now because he looks really good; he’s really moving around well. I’ve been pushing to get him back a little bit sooner.”

WR Paul Richardson (ACL) and CB Jeremy Lane (ACL, wrist) are still on PUP indefinitely.

TE Cooper Helfet sat out with a cracked rib. Carroll did not elaborate on how long he might be sidelined.

TE Anthony McCoy returned to practice after leaving Wednesday due to possible heatstroke.

WR Kevin Smith (groin), FB Derrick Coleman (hamstring) and S Ryan Murphy (ankle) remain day-to-day.

DE Obum Gwacham, a sixth-round rookie project, has an elbow injury.
