There is a big debate about whether the Seahawks should use their top pick on Notre Dame running back Jadarian Price.
The consensus mock draft on Mock Draft Database has the Seahawks taking Price at 32. Draft IQ, meanwhile, has Price as Seattle’s pick at 64.
NFL draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah prefers 32 – simply because the numbers dictate it.
About 21 running backs have been drafted on average over the past five years. One GM told DJ that his team has just eight on the board this time.
“I know (the Seahawks have) been able to find running backs (in later rounds), and I would agree in most years I’d have the utmost confidence they can pluck one in the third, fourth round and be good to go,” Jeremiah said on Seattle Sports Radio last week. “It’s just one of those weird years where they just aren’t there.”
Even if the Hawks move down, Jeremiah thinks Price should be the guy: “I think obviously they’d love to trade back – and, if you could trade back and scoop him up and then get some other assets as well, it would make a lot of sense.”
The Hawks might not feel as pressed to take a running back – John Schneider, after all, has said running backs are easy to find. They might decide to focus on defensive back or pass rusher up high and see whether Washington’s Jonah Coleman is available at 96 or in the early fourth, if they add a pick there.
