Hawks should call about Keion White

As the Nov. 4 trade deadline approaches, NFL teams are expected to make a lot of moves – just as they have for the past few years.

Some Seahawks fans have been clamoring for the team to try to acquire Cincinnati pass rusher Trey Hendrickson, but there might be a better option out there.

The Patriots, under Mike Vrabel’s new staff, have completely ruined Keion White, a 2023 second-round pick who turned into a stellar player in 2024. They have moved the 6-5, 285-pound lineman to outside linebacker, and he has not taken well to it – benched from the starting lineup.

That has him on ESPN’s list of names to watch in the weeks leading up to the deadline. The Hawks definitely should be calling the Patriots about him.

In 2024, White led the Patriots in pressures (28) and QB hurries (12), and he tallied five sacks and seven tackles for a loss. He dominated the Seahawks in Week 2, tallying 1.5 sacks and seven tackles. That alone might be reason enough for Mike Macdonald and John Schneider to consider trying to add him.

What might it take? A fifth-rounder probably would be enough. He is pretty useless to the Patriots as an outside linebacker. He has one year beyond this left on his rookie deal, so it’s worth a mid-round flier to see whether he might fit in with Leonard Williams, Jarran Reed and Byron Murphy II.

We actually wanted the Hawks to draft White in the second round in 2023. Instead, Schneider went with Derick Hall – duplicating his edge rusher pick from 2022 (Boye Mafe). The Patriots took White nine picks later.

Now, two years later, it looks like White might be available – and the Seahawks would be smart to inquire.

Some fans really want the Hawks to try to find a better guard than Anthony Bradford – a move we would favor as well if the Hawks could actually improve there.

Three Cleveland linemen are mentioned in ESPN’s trade candidates list: center Ethan Pocic (the former Seahawk) and guards Joel Bitonio and Wyatt Teller. The latter two have been speculated as possible Seahawks trade targets already this season, but it really comes down, firstly, to whether the Hawks would have any interest and, secondly, to whether the Browns want to firesale their offensive line as they develop rookie QB Dillon Gabriel.

The Seahawks also could look into acquiring a linebacker to bump Tyrice Knight and Drake Thomas – although there do not seem to be any obvious upgrades available.

Yahoo’s Charles Robinson thinks the Seahawks might be in play for Baltimore tight end Mark Andrews – a move that does not really make sense considering the emergence of AJ Barner and the presence of young Elijah Arroyo.

Schneider has made three October acquisitions over the last two years – and two of them have been major additions. In 2023, it was a big move for Leonard Williams. In 2024, it was Ernest Jones IV and a lesser deal for Roy Robertson-Harris.

So, it definitely would not be a surprise to see the Seahawks make a significant move again this year.

White would be a potentially great one.
